The new Western-style education was considered as a milestone in the transition process from traditional education to modern education in East Asia from the second half of the 19th century. This educational system contributed to modernize East Asian countries in all fields ranging from ideology, politics, economic, culture, society, science technology to religion, beliefs etc. The achievements of many East Asian countries in which the new Western-style education from the second half of 19th century is a vital part has become practical reference framework for other countries in the region. This is a significant scientific and practical issues that need to be fully and objectively researched and evaluated. In order to satisfy these requirements, University of Education, Hue University in collaboration with Institute of Asian Research, Aix Marseille University, France; French Institute in Vietnam; Frech Embassy in Vietnam; The HEAD Foundation, Singapore; Ho Chi Minh City University of Education; Vinh University; and Thai Nguyen University of Education, under the sponsored of Vingroup Innovation Foundation to organize the international scientific conference on “The new western-style educational system in East Asia and Vietnam from the second half of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century”.
The conference will help to systematically and comprehensively clarify the role of Western-style educational system in the historical process of East Asian countries based on the modern perspective; affirm the achieved values of new Western-style education in comparison between East Asian countries and Vietnam. From which the conference could give out recommendations for educational reform in Vietnam. The conference is also an opportunity for researchers in Vietnam and other countries to publish research outcomes and cooperate in research and academic activities
